Corinne Savage, a junior at Lincoln Park, has been playing shows for quite some time as a solo artist. Recently, she has gotten together with a couple students to form a complete band, notoriously dubbed as Corinne and the Savages.

By a strange turn of events, the band ended up headlining an acoustic show at the Hard Rock Cafe in Station Square on Apr. 24. Tyler Hilton, the original headliner, reversed show times to play before Corinne so he would not have to “perform after a full band.”

Apparently, he was under the impression that Corinne was solo, similar to the other local acts that performed ahead of him. He pushed the show back by an extraneous amount to suit the desires of his crazed adolescent fans. However, the stage’s power gave out halfway through and some improvisation was called for but not entirely met with satisfaction.

Around 11, Corinne and the Savages took center stage and blew the crowd away. Fans waiting for Tyler’s autograph stood in line bobbing their heads to Corinne’s jazzy rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Many could not believe this band was still in high school – including Tyler.

You can catch Corinne and the Savages at an upcoming show. Visit her YouTube here and watch her perform “Liar,” an original.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, a New York Times Notable Children’s Book, was published Sept.14 2008. Now, in 2012, it has become a movie. This is dangerous territory, being that some books that are made into movies are completely butchered. However, when it comes to The Hunger Games, the difference between liking it and hating is only measured by how picky you are. If you are a die hard word for word from the book fan, you may be disappointed. A few scenes, like the one where Katniss enters the Capitol hospital after the games and characters, like Madge, were left out, and the entire story had a feeling of being rushed through.

If you’ve read the books and you understand the producers can’t fit in every single breath that the characters take, the movie should be rather enjoyable for you.The story is still portratyed well.
The only grivance I have with this movie is that I feel like if you haven’t read the books, you would be missing out on a lot. For example, when I went to see the movie, the person next to me blurted out “Oh my gosh, it’s a colony of clowns!” when we entered the Capitol.

All in all, I thought it was a good movie. I was slightly disappointed that a few things were changed up or missing, however it’s still the same story that so many have grown to love.

On April 1, Mr. Schaller was arrested for the murder of a civilian. Mr. Schaller was on stage performing, and one of the audience members had the nerve to boo him after he stumbled over a few lines. Witnesses say that Mr. Schaller’s eyes filled with red, bubbling rage. “No one insults my acting! No one!” he screamed as he strangled the civilian with his own two hands.

Someone in the audience whipped out their cell phone and called the police. They arrived twenty minutes later to find Schaller laughing maniacally over the body. Mr. Schaller is being held without bail and currently awaiting his trial that will take place on April 5.

Who is the head of the department?
Mr. Bariski

How many students are in the department?
38

What do they do?
Health science students are trained for many different jobs in the medical field. From pharmaceutics to sports medicine, they study the body and learn exactly how to treat it. They dissect different organs that come from animals, such as sheep, and get a close look at the blue prints of the organs. The majors also learn a great deal about the way the senses work by playing games and doing tests that take away certain senses and leave you with only a select few.
Health science majors also learn how to take care of injuries. A career in sports medicine allows them to take care and prevent injuries of athletes.

How do you audition?
Students interested in health science first attend an enrollment seminar. Then, they are given a packet to fill out, told to write a one page essay introducing themselves, and explaining why they want to be a health science major, and also told to create a portfolio containing any previous health science or athletic experience they have previously had. Next, they take a learning style test at an interview, and finally have a one on one interview.

What are a few of the classes?
Anatomy, Prevention and Care of Injuries, Diseases and Disorders of the Systems.

Where can health science majors be found?
Heath science majors can often be found in the gym.

What is some of the lingo used by the department?
Anatomical. Sternocleidomastoid.

Siren’s New’s Administration.

Is Alumni Hall now being taken over by the middle schoolers? Why yes it is.

Because of the upperclassman teasing the eighth grade and having a bad reaction to the seventh grade coming next fall they decided it was only best to separate them completely by creating a Lincoln Park Junior High.

“I held a meeting with Mrs. Manning, Mr. Poling, and Dr. Trombetta on Monday March 12 and explained how the eighth grade and the incoming seventh grade are actually the most important grades to the success of this school,” says Mr. Barr. “After much deliberation…. the seventh and eighth grade will now be taking over Alumni Hall next year.” The meeting was closed to public, and was only announced to the teachers on March 20.

“ During the meeting we decided to change the building’s name to Lincoln Park Junior High,” Mrs. Manning proudly says. Upperclassmen will continue to eat in the Atrium.

“ The upperclassmen are welcomed to visit,” Mr. Barr says. On Fridays, upperclassmen are able to visit and enjoy lunch with the junior higher students for open mic, which will be held every week.

“We decided that the music students should stay where they are,” Mr. Barr says. Mr. Wes and a select few other teachers are now just seventh and eighth grade teachers. Also since Mr. Poling is hard at work being the principal of the upperclassmen they decided to make Dr. Butterini the Principal of the Junior High.

“I am so excited to be taking the job of principal of Lincoln Park Junior High,” He says.

Next year when you return for another year of high school you’ll look out the window at Lincoln Park’s new addition, Lincoln Park Junior High.

**Please note on the print edition there was a mix up with Mr. Barr and Dr. Butterini.

Mrs. Laura Humbert is the director of the Media Department. It is her job to “manage the media department and coordinate all the teachers and all the courses.” She also says she “develops the marketing for the school.”

“I worked in media production for twenty years,” she says “[I] met Dr. Trombetta while working for my previous employer. He stole me away.” Mrs. Humbert thinks that Lincoln Park has changed education by helping people “realize that different students learn in different ways.” If she were stuck on an island she would wish for “Gaven Pamer Singing.”

Mr. Dan LeRoy is the director of Literary Arts; it’s his job to make sure Literary Arts keeps up with its title. “The ability to make up a new class when it’s time to make up a new class and have it be based on things students are interested in and what they suggest, is the best part of this job.”

He came to Lincoln Park through when Mr. Catanzarite told him to apply for the job, “and I did,” he says about his friend getting him away from freelancing and into teaching. After some years at LPPACS he developed some thoughts on how Lincoln Park changed education, “which is trying to educate people one person at a time, giving people individual attention, understanding everybody doesn’t learn the same way, and you have to do different things with different people. It hasn’t changed education as much as took it back to the way it was originally.” If he were stuck on an Island all he wants is “a volleyball named Willson.”

Friday’s game between Lincoln Park and West Middlesex was the game you didn’t want to miss.

Slippery Rock’s Morrow Fieldhouse was full of excitement and nerves as Lincoln Park and West Middlesex played neck and neck for the entirety of the game. It wasn’t until the final seconds when Lincoln Park’s Antonio Kellem scored the winning shot for a 47-45 victory in the PIAA Class A quarterfinals.

The tension during Friday’s game actually started minutes before the first quarter began. It started when West Middlesex resident and current Lincoln Park student Kenzie Palmer sang the National Anthem before the game. She received boos from the out of control West Middlesex fans, but lively cheers from the Lincoln Park fans. Instantly, the two schools became rivals during a game they wouldn’t forget.

By the end of the first quarter, the score showed that the game would be a close one with Lincoln Park ahead by two at 17-15. It became even closer when the second quarter ended with West Middlesex in the lead by one point, at 27-26. You can only imagine how close the game was after the third quarter, when Lincoln Park had a one point lead on West Middlesex at 35-34.

But it wasn’t until the fourth quarter when the most exciting part of the night happened. Lincoln Park was down by two at 45-43 with only 25 seconds remaining in the game. Lincoln Park’s Jaylyn Cottrill scored and tied the game at 45-45 with 11.5 seconds on the clock.

West Middesex had the ball, but freshman Antonio Kellem didn’t even have time to think before he got control of a high dribble ball. Kellem raced down the court for the winning shot and scored in the final second.

Senior Trey Hosack led the Leopards with 13 points, and sophomore Ryan Skovranko chipped in 11.

Friday’s game against West Middlesex will be talked about for years to come. It was thrilling to attend such a nerve-racking game and it only makes me wonder what’s in store for Lincoln Park at Tuesday’s game against Ridgeway.

If I were a betting person, my money would be on Lincoln Park.

Spring is approaching fast, and so is prom. If you read the last update on the new building, you should know that the building isn’t expected to be done until the beginning or the middle of summer. What does that mean for prom? It’s in the gym.

Since we aren’t going off campus, we can really beef up the theme, Hollywood “Red Carpet,” and add extra little things says Ms. Potts. “Plans are going well,” she assures. Here are some juniors and seniors who shared their thoughts about the prom’s location:

 Chris Modro (Junior)
“Why would it be in the gym? Last year it was outside, and it was really nice. Everything was fine. There was dancing. It was just a party. I don’t like the idea of having it in the gym. It’s too hot.”

John “Jac” Cageao (Senior)
“It’’s kind of lame that the building can’t be done on time. However, I hear that what they are planning in the gym is actually going to be pretty cool, and instead of ordering that tent that cost fifteen thousand dollars, they will actually be making the gym into a very nice place to have the prom. I’m actually pretty content with it not being in there. I’m fine with it. No issues here.”

Brandon Stettner (Senior)
“I’m kind of disappointed, because I thought the new building would be cool. It’s in the gym. That is so dumb.”
