Lincoln Park Dance alumni go back to school one more time

August 1, 2012

A dance education at Lincoln Park doesn’t have to end with graduation.

Several graduates of the Dance Department at Lincoln Park returned to their alma mater recently for a pair of special dance classes conducted by faculty member Jennifer Verba.

These open classes, held on July 31 and Aug. 1 in the school’s Large Dance Studio, gave the students -- many of whom are studying dance in college -- a chance to brush up on techniques and get some pointers before the new semester begins.

The classes came about when alumnus Savannah Spratt, Class of 2012, contacted the school to see if she could sit in on a summer dance class.

“Knowing that the dancers are very dedicated and always want to improve, I thought it would be a great idea to have two open ballet classes for alumni and current Lincoln Park students,” said Verba.

The word spread fast, and more than a dozen students turned up for the impromptu class sessions.

“It was so nice to see the passion of our dancers, wanting a ballet class before heading to college or back to school,” added Verba, who also coordinates the school’s Associate Degree program with the Community College of Beaver County. “Here at Lincoln Park, we are always open to both alumni and current students -- we want to offer them all the best training and education possible.”
