Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School

Department of Music

Mission Statement

Lincoln Park's Department of Music provides a comprehensive education to the aspiring young musician by setting high artistic standards while broadening musical horizons. Students gain the educational, social, and emotional foundation necessary to embark on successful, professional careers as artists.

Course of Study

The music curriculum is designed for the prospective college student, as well as the future professional musician. Required courses include musicianship (music theory, ear training, and music history), piano class, private lessons, and performance ensembles.

There are numerous opportunities for music students to appear in productions through Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center. These productions give students the chance to play side-by-side with working professional musicians and gain invaluable hands-on experience.

Faculty

Lincoln Park's Department of Music offers both private and classroom instruction by some of the area's finest musicians. Many members of the Music Department faculty are professional performers and college instructors, both current and retired.

Some of the organizations represented by our faculty include the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Opera Theater, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, River City Brass Band, Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, Mellon Jazz Festival, Carnegie Mellon University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Westminster College, West Virginia Wesleyan University, and Slippery Rock University.

Students are also afforded the opportunity to interact with artists from world-class organizations, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, through master classes and recitals.
